Participation of RedeeM project in the EWA National Water Conference 2026

On the 22nd of January 2026 the RedeeM project participated in the National Water Conference 2026 organised by the Energy and Water Agency with the support of SD-Wishees.

The Conference brouhgt together policymakers, experts and stakeholders to focus on Water Heritage in Malta. Discussions throughout the day are explored Malta’s water heritage and current challenges, while identifying solutions for long-term sustainability and resilience.

 

The theme for this edition was “Water Heritage in Malta”, with a focused on both the physical structures that have shaped the water history of the Maltese Islands and the traditions, legends and language that reflect the influence of water over the centuries.

Two thematic sessions explored different aspects of Malta’s water heritage. The first session  focused on tangible heritage, including groundwater springs, aqueducts, industrial water systems and sites of conservation importance. The second session  explored intangible heritage, such as narratives, place names and traditional observations linked to water.

During the Conference the RedeeM project was presented to public authorities, the scientific community and the wider public.  In the framework of a thematic session the project team had the opportunity to showcase its scope, objectives, as well as methodology and proposed solutions to address issues of concern in terms of water scarcity and desertification for the Mediterranean region. An insiring and fruitful discussion followed along with networking activities for invited speakers and participants.
